Baetens’s new collection offers a wide range of photographic nudes. Many different settings appear, each of which set off the figure within them in different ways. Crumbling, abandoned architecture contrasts with the model’s sleek organic curves; natural settings enhance her elegant animal essence; boudoir settings wrap her in warmth and sensuality. Although the models all fit the slim, twenty-something mold, thy still cover a range of different looks. Many display a charmingly slender bust, in pleasant contrast to the curvier figures. And, in addition to the European features common to collections like this, Baetens adds models with darker skin tones, too – a welcome tribute to beauty’s many faces.
A few of these photos stand out as portraits, the kind that truly capture the model’s personality. A few others present figure studies of the classic kind. Most, however, just convey the plain fun the model has in being herself, and in being appreciated for the lovely woman she is.
